About US

David & Paul wish to invite you to this most beautiful part of rural Perthshire and experience some famous Scottish Highland hospitality.

David & Paul have been in business since 2002 when Paul’s cake decorating skills became so popular that he opened his first cake shop in Linlithgow. This quickly grew and by 2011 when they sold the business, they had 35 staff spread across 7 outlets. During those years Paul made cakes for the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince Albert of Monaco, Barry Gibb and a long line of A List celebrities.

However, Paul’s passion lay in teaching.  As soon as he launched his first cake decorating courses in 2008 Paul started to make a name for himself. Since then he has taught cake decorating to thousands of students face to face in the UK, US, Australia, India, Dubai, Germany, Spain, Italy, Monaco and New Zealand. He has hosted International cake shows in the UK and Australia.

In 2010 David persuaded Paul that online cake decorating tutorials would become popular. Paul took some persuading, but in 2011 they launched what is now CakeFlix, which was the first subscription based online cake decorating tutorial website. They have published at least one feature length tutorial every week since then and the online side continues to go from strength to strength. Currently they have over 200,000 subscribers.

David runs the administrative parts of the business including the website, marketing and finance. David & Paul believe that the longevity of their partnership is down to having two completely different roles. One couldn’t operate without the other, but together they are a formidable force.

Paul has always had a desire to open a residential cake school. At the start of the Covid lockdown David & Paul lived in Spain where they were able to easily run CakeFlix. However, the pandemic made it increasingly clear that Paul needed to be teaching face to face and a desire for a more front of house role. Together they started searching what was available and as soon as they set eyes on Strathardle Lodge, they knew that was the perfect place.

Running Strathardle Lodge as a Guest House and Cake School has become a dream come true for the pair, but like everything worthwhile there has been a lot to learn. However, their passion and commitment to ensuring that guests have an enjoyable and comfortable stay is their driving goal.

Why not come and see for yourself what they have created and they look forward to rolling out the welcome mat.
